Women’s History Month is an annual celebration of the contributions women have made over the course of American history. Women’s History Month began as a local celebration of Women’s History Week in 1978 before Congress passed a law in 1987 making March the official month to commemorate the vital role of women in the U.S. Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” Learn more about Women’s History month at Women’s History Month .

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. This past year has been tough for women. Millions of women lost jobs because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and female workforce participation has dropped to 57%, the lowest it has been since 1988. Women of color have been hit particularly hard. Even through this difficult time, many women are continuing to work in addition to being teachers and caregivers for their families at home.
In 2020, the Dallas Regional Chamber made a commitment to build a more inclusive community. Part of that commitment is to amplify the stories of inspiring women who are continuing to forge their own path. Below are resources to help you better understand women’s history and celebrate their achievements.
