DreamHack Dallas concluded Sunday, June 2, after attracting record crowds of over 40,000. The Dallas Regional Chamber played a key role in helping attract the event to the region, and in helping the DreamHack organization realize several logistical objectives.
“This is the largest attendance we’ve seen in the Western Hemisphere,” said Justin Varghese, North American Marketing Manager for DreamHack. He said the event at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center outstripped its next-largest attendance by 5,000 attendees. The event featured esports tournament play by local and international gamers, including Paris-based Team Vitality. Locally based Team Envy held panel discussions and operated a gaming activation and swag store.
The event – which kicked off Friday, May 31 – also included a hackathon, numerous vendors and non-electronic game play, such as Magic: The Gathering and a dodgeball-inspired frisbee game that mirrors the look of digital gaming.
