Innovation

On the Front Lines

At the DRC, we’re big supporters of emerging innovations in the marketplace.

Innovation is a key component of the DRC’s strategic plan because of the direct link between having an innovative economy and our ability to attract companies and talent. The Dallas Region is a hub of creativity, ingenuity, imagination, and high-tech innovation. Our region ranks in the top 10 of metropolitan areas in the United States for high-tech workers, employing over 230,000 people across diverse industries. North Texas has a collaborative and engaged entrepreneurial ecosystem, growing research universities, and innovative companies investing in the region, making our area a key part of growth strategies for companies. We continue to do what it takes to create and foster a culture of innovation here.

That’s why we developed an Innovation program, focusing on a series of activities that supports the launch and growth of innovation activities by connecting entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, and the business community.

Get Involved

The Innovation Taskforce is comprised of DRC member companies who come together to discuss and support the Dallas Region’s innovation ecosystem. Contact the DRC’s Research and Innovation team to get involved.

United States Patent and Trademark Office

In 2015, the USPTO opened one of four regional offices in Dallas due to the growing output of high-tech innovations. The other regional offices are located in Silicon Valley, Detroit, and Denver. The office provides outreach services for inventors, entrepreneurs, startups, researchers, and others. Visitors to the office can search existing patent and trademarks, attend workshops and training, use interview rooms for applicants to connect with patent examiners working at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia and across the country, and gain remote access to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings. The Texas Regional Office is located in the Terminal Annex Federal Building in Downtown Dallas.

World IP Day

World IP Day was launched in the 2000 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to promote and protect creative ideas, including music, art, trademarks, writings, and inventions. World IP Day is celebrated all over the globe, and AIPLA is working to expand those celebrations across the United States.  AIPLA, working with local IP law associations, Chambers of Commerce, cities, and law schools, has been able to work with cities nationwide to celebrate World IP nationally. The DRC supports this effort each year through various local events and programs. Contact DRC staff for more information.
