When you were in school, didn’t you occasionally think: “If I were principal for just one day, I would… ”? Now you have that chance! Dallas ISD’s ‘Principal for a Day’ (PFAD) project brings community leaders into schools from across the district to:

- Increase awareness among individuals in the private sector of the strengths and challenges in Dallas ISD’s schools
- Demonstrate the private sector’s commitment to ensuring a quality public education for all students
- Form ongoing partnerships between individuals/businesses and Dallas ISD

Who can participate?
Business and civic leaders are eligible to participate and exchange knowledge with school staff and students while learning more about Dallas public schools and opening the door for collaborations.

What can I expect to experience?
Participants are assigned to a single Dallas ISD campus to spend time with the principal, faculty and students. As a guest principal, you might:
• Teach a class
• Meet with student council
• Attend student performances
• Read to students
• Address a class assemblyAt the end of the day, all guest principals convene with the superintendent, principals and other business leaders to recap the day. They’ll discuss their experiences, potential commitments and plans for future involvement.

How are participants assigned to schools?
To the extent possible, participants are assigned to schools based on their interests and the interests of the schools. Participants can be matched with an elementary, middle or high school.

What is the time commitment?
Principal for a Day is a flexible program, with participants committing the time they reasonably can. Volunteers are not expected to serve for the entire day but are encouraged to commit as much time to the experience as possible.
An optional but encouraged “After Class” Reception is 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Perot Museum.
