DRC Member Spotlight: Parkland Foundation

Parkland Foundation (Foundation) is dedicated to securing substantial financial resources that advance the goals of Parkland Health (Parkland). Parkland’s mission is to advance wellness, relieve suffering, develop, and educate. Our vision is to advance positive health outcomes through excellence as a public health system

How does your company help other businesses become more effective?

As an anchor institution, Parkland is committed to decreasing health disparities by leveraging our substantial size as a Dallas County business to impact the social and economic health of the communities we serve. This includes providing access to healthcare in under-resourced communities, targeting job recruitment and staff development efforts, paying a living wage, and procuring resources from our local communities when possible.

What differentiates your company from others in your industry?

The Foundation’s commitment to harness the power of data-driven and impact-focused philanthropy has shaped the life-changing ways Parkland has advanced wellness, relieved suffering, and developed and educated the next generation of clinicians. From deploying data-science to inform the allocation of community-based testing and vaccination during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to supporting the development of the C.V. Roman Health Center, the Parkland Foundation activates the power of private and public capital to affect change.

What do you enjoy most about doing business in the Dallas Region?

Investors from our community are the lifeblood that transforms Parkland into one of the top public hospital systems in the country. With their committed support, Parkland can extend its services to reach more and enhance the quality of programs offered.

Why did you decide to become a DRC member?

Parkland Foundation actively seeks to develop and strengthen community partnerships and engagement. The DRC is the convener for so many different businesses, civic organizations, and nonprofits that it only makes sense to make sure we’re involved in those conversations and the great work that’s being done.

How has your business changed in the past five years?

The Foundation has worked to build strong cross-sector partnerships within the Dallas nonprofit and corporate community to identify new funding opportunities for the Foundation that strengthen the community’s public health landscape and address holistically the needs of Parkland patients. This past year, the Foundation secured significant private investment from companies such as Amazon, Bank of America, and McKesson to advance Parkland’s efforts to strengthen access to high-quality, community-based healthcare across Southern Dallas.
