It seems the Dallas Region is under perpetual construction. Earth is in constant motion, making way for new apartments, homes, condos, duplexes, what have you. There’s good reason for that: Dallas-Fort Worth was the fastest-growing metro in the U.S. between 2013 and 2017. People need to live somewhere.
On more than one occasion, you might have wondered, “Where are these people coming from?”
To answer that question, the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Research & Innovation team conducted some deep research. We downloaded the enormous files containing Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS) that – when analyzed – would answer that question. Perhaps even more intriguing, the data tells us which general areas in the Dallas Region that New Yorkers, Bostonians, Philadelphians, and others prefer, when they relocate to our region.
The data also reveals the education level and gender of movers, the industries in which they work, and other details. For instance, roughly 75 percent of the young adults who moved here – ages 21 to 34 – pursued further education after graduating from high school.
We used that data to generate this Storymap.
