Celebrating the Bicentennial of Mexico's Independence and Centennial the Mexican Revolution

Mexico celebrates 2010 as the bicentennial of its Independence Movement and the centennial of the Mexican Revolution by reviving through different initiatives the principals of this nation’s foundation: equality, liberty, democracy and justice. Because DFW has the third largest concentration of Hispanics in the United States, the Mexican Consulate has made an effort to highlight and share the Mexican anniversary with events in our area.

“This celebration is an effort to inspire all Mexicans and all interested individuals everywhere to learn about the origin and context of the Mexican Independence and Revolutionary movements and their impact on our lives today, and to encourage the ethical and civic values that nourish our harmonious co-existence,” said Mexican Consul General, Ambassador Cué Vega.

In Mexico, a committee of distinguished historians, archeologists, artists and government representatives organized not only civic celebrations and cultural events, but also plans for the recovery of public infrastructure, national monuments and the improvement of the quality of life through sustainability and health initiatives. “These celebrations are not just about remembering important dates; they are about reviving the values and ideals that shaped Mexico,” added Ambassador Cué Vega.

To honor the anniversaries locally, Dallas-Fort Worth will join the Mexican celebrations by organizing an array of cultural, artistic and culinary events, as well as seminars and forums. Ambassador Cué Vega said, "Building bridges between the Mexican and DFW communities is of great importance to our Consulate. I am pleased to share our calendar of celebratory events that will take place this year in the metroplex.”
