Dallas Regional Chamber Promotes DFW Business Opportunities to Companies in Europe

As DFW’s assets continue to be touted , the Dallas Regional Chamber is capitalizing on these attributes and continuing its economic development efforts abroad.

Through a trip co-organized by the Council of American States in Europe and the U.S. Commercial Service organizations, the Chamber traveled to Milan, Paris and Brussels to promote DFW business opportunities to companies located in these areas. Organizations from 17 American states also attended the mission trip.

The trip featured events in each city, including presentations to the European companies about American legal, taxation and visa/immigration issues; workshops about conducting business in different American industries; and an opportunity for the American organizations to meet one-on-one with the European business representatives.

Nearly 100 European companies attended these events from several different industry segments, including biotechnology; information technology for financial services; and clean energy and green technologies.

“These sectors are critical for our region, as 45 percent of all Texas technology workers are employed in DFW,” said Sarah Carabias-Rush, who attended the mission and is the Chamber’s managing director for its International Business Development department. “Promoting the assets of doing business in DFW to these companies makes sense because of their need for a skilled technology workforce.”

European businesses heard several facts about DFW, including how the metropolitan area is the:

  • 4th largest U.S. metro following New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago.
  • 12th largest metro economy in the world.
  • Equidistant from North America’s five largest business centers: New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Toronto.
  • Texas has been the #1 exporting state in the U.S. for the last seven consecutive years.

The Chamber’s international economic development missions target the following key markets: Europe (specifically Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom), China, Mexico, and South Korea.

The Chamber established its International Business Council to expand its economic development efforts overseas as well as support area businesses who conduct business globally.
