Chamber Hosts Luncheon for United States Senator John Cornyn

On Friday, February 19th the Dallas Regional Chamber was proud to host a luncheon for United States Senator John Cornyn. Over 200 business leaders from across North Texas were on hand to hear the Senator’s views on world events and the issues under consideration in Washington, DC.

The Senator was introduced by Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO of Research In Motion (RIM) / Blackberry. Mr. Balsillie was in town from RIM’s world headquarters in Canada to visit their US Headquarters in Irving and to attend this event. We would like to thank RIM for their generous support as the Platinum Sponsor for the luncheon.

Prior to the luncheon the Senator hosted a very interesting roundtable discussion to discuss positive attributes of Texas that have convinced many businesses to move here such as tax incentives, less regulations, and an overall business-friendly environment. They also focused on improvements that can be made to make our area even more fertile for business growth.

Participants in the roundtable discussion included – Senator John Cornyn, Richard Fisher (President of the Dallas Federal Reserve), Jim Balsillie (RIM), Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, Ralph Babb (Comerica), Bob Best (Atmos Energy), Dr. Stephen Newman (Tenent Healthcare) and Jim Oberwetter (Dallas Regional Chamber).
