Leadership Dallas Class of 2010 Teams with Austin Street Centre for Annual Class Project

Founded in 1975 by the Dallas Regional Chamber, Leadership Dallas is a leadership development program aimed at providing our city with an ongoing source of leaders who are prepared and committed to serve as catalysts and sustainers of positive change in the quality of life of our community.

As part of the Leadership Dallas experience, each class is responsible for choosing a community service project. This Class Project is an assignment that the entire class can support and work together on throughout their Leadership Dallas year. After months of reviewing individual project proposals submitted by their fellow classmates, the Class of 2010 has chosen the Austin Street Centre as the beneficiary of this year’s Class Project.

The class will participate in a Saturday work session to renovate the center’s playground and outside areas for the residents of the centre. For 25 years, Austin Street Centre has served homeless and poor of Dallas. Now, a nationally recognized therapeutic community, Austin Street provides emergency shelter, food, showers, medications, counseling, and job training programs free of charge to those in need. More than 400 men, women and children receive safe shelter each night and more than 100 participate in substance abuse counseling, psychotherapies, and psycho-social counseling.

Past Leadership Dallas projects include: Renovation, fundraising efforts and organizing a community fair on behalf of Jeffries Street Learning Center (Class of 2009) and partnering with the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department installing smoke detectors in Dallas’ Hamilton Park neighborhood (Class of 2008).
