On June 4th, the Obama Administration announced the President's nominations for Ambassadors to Canada and Mexico. David Jacobson, who currently serves on the White House staff, is the Administration's nominee for the Ambassador to Canada. Before becoming involved in government, Jacobson lived in Chicago as a practicing lawyer in the areas of insurance and business litigation, class action, securities, and commercial law.
Former U.S. State Department and National Security Council employee Carlos Pascual is the President's nominee for Ambassador to Mexico. Pascual also previously served as Ambassador to Ukraine. He currently works at the Brookings Institute where his focus has been on foreign policy and energy security policy.
Both appointments must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate; at this time there is no speculation that the Senate will have a problem confirming either individual.
