The Dallas Regional Chamber opposes the decision made by the U.S. Congress to end the pilot project allowing trucks to operate across the U.S.-Mexico border. The success of the pilot program was proven and no significant abuses (related to security or otherwise) were reported. It is abundantly clear that the decision is defiant of our trade agreement and therefore protectionist in nature.

The United States and Peru saw the fruition of the two countrys' efforts of negotiating a bilateral free trade agreement, when the U.S.-Peru Free Trade Agreement (FTA) took effect on February 1, 2009. On January 16th, then-President George W. Bush issued a proclamation to implement the FTA passed by the U.S. Congress in December 2007.

Three bills recently introduced in the Texas Senate would create new reporting requirements pertaining to sales of pharmaceutical and medical device companies. While each bill differs on specifics, these requirements include quarterly or annual reporting of any gift or payment over $25- 75 to physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, or health plan administrators.

Among the various elements in the recent economic recovery bill signed into law by President Obama was a provision aimed at financial institutions that employ foreign workers through H1-B visas. An amendment proposed by Senator Bernard Sanders (I-VT) and Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) prohibits financial institutions that receive stimulus funding from hiring H1-B visa holders with a few limited exceptions.
