Inside Sources Report on Education

According to a recent Delta Project report, between 2002 and 2006 public colleges and universities failed to make significant gains in helping students earn degrees.
  • For public research institutions, in 2002 only 23 of 100 students enrolled
received a degree, and by 2006 that number increased to 25.
  • For public master's institutions, in 2002 only 22 of 100 students enrolled
received a degree, and by 2006 that number increased to 23.
  • For public community colleges, in 2002 only 15 of 100 students enrolled
received a degree, and by 2006 that number had not changed.

At our Focus on Education breakfast on March 3, panelist Philip Montgomery stated, “We should be alarmed and outraged at the state of public secondary education The business community needs to lead by holding firm to high expectations, supporting and rewarding performance, and by making it crystal clear that poor performance is unacceptable."

Education reform continues to be the cry of many in the community, but the method of that reform
is as varied as each individual asked. The best source may be those closest to the schools themselves- area superintendents.

Join us on May 20 from 12-1:30 PM as area superintendents update the business community on exactly what is going on within their schools. Dr. Linda Henrie from Mesquite ISD and Dr. Dawson Orr, the new superintendent of Highland Park ISD will share how the business community can play a role in making a positive impact on area schools.
