The Chiapas Project was founded in 2003 by Real Estate Developer, Lucy Billingsley. Although it is a stand alone organization, The Chiapas Project funds the Grameen Foundation in Washington, inspired by the Grameen Bank 2006 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Since its inception, The Chiapas Project has raised over $4,080,000 for microfinance in Latin America and the Caribbean and has expanded its reach from Chiapas, Mexico to Bolivia, Haiti, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Paraguay. It is also the only grassroots group in the United States, organized under the Grameen Foundation, to provide funding to women living on less than two dollars a day.

The International Business Achievement Awards are presented annually by the International Business Council to a small to mid-size company, a large corporation and an outstanding individual whose global successes and civic involvement have raised awareness of DFW as an international business destination.
