Women-owned businesses represent a large share of the American economy. According to the Center for Women’s Business Research:
- 10.1 million firms are owned by women (50% or more), employing more than 13 million people, and generating $1.9 trillion in sales as of 2008.
- Three quarters of all women-owned businesses are majority owned by women (51% or more), for a total of 7.2 million firms, employing 7.3 million people, and generating $1.1 trillion in sales.
- Women-owned firms (50% or more) account for 40% of all privately held firms.
The Dallas Regional Chamber is committed to promoting economic opportunities for women-entrepreneurial, professional and corporate. Through its commitment to women’s business issues, the Chamber is turning the challenges facing business women into unlimited opportunities through programs that educate, inform and provide access for business development as well as professional and personal growth.
Integral to the chamber’s commitment is the 14th Annual Women’s Business Conference. Slated for September 3, 2009 at the Sheraton Dallas, the Conference is a day long event that focuses on professional development and networking opportunities for businesswomen and men at all levels in their careers.
Last year’s conference attracted more than 1,700 attendees and featured keynote speakers Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York, Olympic Gold Medalist Kerri Walsh, Major General (ret.) Mary Saunders, and Drum Café. Topics included leadership, surviving in a global economy, networking, brain health, and work relationships.
Early bird registration is $125 for Chamber member companies and $150 for non-Chamber member companies. Early bird registration rates are in effect through May 1, 2009.
