The Chamber's State of the Workforce luncheon focuses on the current and future workforce from the local, national and global perspective. Join us on February 23rd to hear from:
Dr. Mike Moses
Former Texas Commissioner of Public Education
Dr. Geoffrey Orsak
Dean, SMU School of Engineering
We will be showing clips from the documentary 2 Million Minutes. According to their website (www.2mminutes.com), “This film takes a deeper look at how the three superpowers of the 21st Century - China, India and the United States - are preparing their students for the future. As we follow two students - a boy and a girl - from each of these countries, we compose a global snapshot of education, from the viewpoint of kids preparing for their future. Our goal is to tell the broader story of the universal importance of education today, and address what many are calling a crisis for U.S. schools regarding chronically low scores in math and science indicators.” Ultimately the goal of the film is to ask the question: “What implications do their choices have on their future and on a country's economic future?”
As a Chamber, our goal is to take that question one step closer to home – what do these implications have on the North Texas region’s future workforce.
Panelists will discuss trends they see in the workforce and respond to the accuracy of the documentary in their opinion. From a global perspective of workforce development, what role should business play in education today? Is there cause for concern as the documentary indicates?
In addition to the panel discussion, we will have an expert discussing current workforce trends.
