The British American Business Council officially introduced British Consul General Paul Lynch to the North Texas International Community on November 20, 2008.
The Consul General, based in Houston, expressed his excitement about the new post and commitment to continue to cultivate relations with the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. The Consul General spoke on the topic of "The UK View of the Global Financial Crisis," and gave an overview of the country's economic and financial history to serve as a backdrop for the UK's current economic situation.
Due to the present global financial crisis, the United Kingdom is in the process of reforming certain policies in order to achieve macroeconomic stability by removing barriers to economic growth and increasing employment opportunities. The Consul General summarized the aim of these policy changes as seeking to promote stability in the world-wide economy, not only in the U.K. financial sector.
The United Kingdom is Dallas/ Fort Worth's seventh top trading partner and continues to be a strategic market for both the North Texas region and the Dallas Regional Chamber's International Business Council. As the fifth largest economy in the world with a GDP of more than $2.3 billion (2007), the United Kingdom has regularly outpaced the European Union in GDP growth for the past decade.
The Dallas Regional Chamber's International Business Council (IBC) continues to establish strong ties with the United Kingdom through our Trade & Investment Office in London, numerous business missions and hosting British dignitaries. The Chamber's IBC is pleased to welcome Consul General Lynch to his new post and looks forward to further pursuing economic success.
