Leaders Making Strides in Education

The Chamber is bringing together a panel of business and education leaders dedicated to making a difference in the area education system.  Though their backgrounds and represented organization missions vary slightly, one thing is certain – these leaders are doing all that they can to change the face of education today.  Wonder how you can help?  Join us on March 3 at Cityplace Conference Center to find out!

Event details:
Tuesday, March 3
8:00-9:30 AM
Cityplace Conference Center, Floor 42
2711 N. Haskell Ave.
Dallas, 75204

Panelists include:
- Larry Faulkner, President of the Houston Endowment
- Tom Burnett with Apple Computer, Inc. representing TERF (the Texas Education Reform
   Foundation)
- Truman Bell with ExxonMobil representing TBEC
- Philip Montgomery, Chairman of the Board, Uplift Education

These panelists will speak to the role that business can play in education reform and why they deemed it important enough to offer their time toward these endeavors.  Each panelist will answer a series of moderated questions and then we will open the floor for audience Q&A.

“The TBEC mission is to convene business and education leaders to confront Texas with the realities of the global economy, to impact public policy, and to change public education.” (http://tbec.org)

Texas Education Reform Foundation (TERF) mission is as stated: to strengthen the Texas’ public education system through communication and education efforts, research and data dissemination and forging partnerships among key education stakeholders.” (http://www.tperf.org)

The mission of Uplift Education is to create and sustain public schools of excellence that empower students to reach their highest potential and inspire a lifelong love of learning, achievement, service, and responsible citizenship. (http://www.uplifteducation.org/home.aspx)

The Houston Endowment is “a private philanthropic foundation that improves the lives for the people of the greater Houston area through its contributions to charitable organizations and education institutions.” (www.houstonendowment.org)

The organizations represented are in no way an exhaustive list of those organizations striving to make a difference in education.  Rather, the goal of this event it to provide the audience with an overview of what changes are being made and offer a variety of potential paths of involvement.  The Chamber has a Workforce and Education Taskforce that looks at how business can make a difference in the North Texas region.  We invite you to our first meeting of the year on Wednesday, February 25 from 8-9:30 AM.  For more information about this group, please contact lmoffett@dallaschamber.org.
