Leadership Dallas to Name Mayor Tom Leppert as Honorary Alum

Each year, the Leadership Dallas Alumni meet in January for the annual Breakfast with Mayor, an update from the Mayor on events and issues for the coming year. This year, the alumni will present Mayor Leppert with an Honorary Alumni status at this event.

Mayor Leppert’s history in leadership roles and leadership development include serving as the Mayor of Dallas since 2007, the ninth largest city in the United States with a population of 1.3 million people. Prior to that, Mayor Leppert served as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of The Turner Corporation, retiring in December 2006.

In 1984, he was appointed by President Reagan as a White House Fellow. Mr. Leppert was assigned both to the Department of the Treasury and the White House Staff. As a Fellow, he traveled throughout Europe and the Eastern Bloc countries of the Soviet Union, Poland and Hungary.

He has taken an active role in a variety of community activities, on both a national and local level, and assumed leadership roles in several organizations. He was the Chairman of the Dallas Regional Chamber in 2003 and currently serves on the Executive Committee. He serves or has served on the Boards of the West Dallas Initiative (Chairman), Dallas Zoological Society (member of the Executive Committee), The Dallas Citizens Council, Episcopal School of Dallas, Trinity Trust, Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series at Southern Methodist University and the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is also the Chairman of the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations, is a member of the Governor’s (Texas) Business Council and serves on the Texas Environmental Research Consortium.

He sits on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the CEO Advisory Council of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). He is a member of Young Presidents Organization, World Presidents Organization and Chief Executives Organization.

Mr. Leppert and his wife Laura live in Dallas and have a son Christian and twins, Catherine and Ryan. They are members of Park Cities Baptist Church.
