The Texas Scholars program allows business and community leaders to visit local 8th grade classrooms to teach and discuss the impact of current decision making on the student's futures. A detailed PowerPoint presentation is provided for volunteers outlining choices for life after high school, including workforce and college options. Presenters are able to share their own life experiences with students, chat about what employers look for when hiring, and discuss topics such as scholarship opportunities and financial aid options available for students.
The program requires only one day of time on the part of the volunteers, but the impact is huge! Over a two week span of October 20-31, a mutually agreed upon day is chosen between the school counselors and the volunteers for the presentation and classroom visit to take place.
You can view a copy of the presentation www.texasscholars.org. We provide training and you and your company provide the volunteers. It’s a perfect opportunity to make a lasting impression on the future workforce of Dallas. Join us as we encourage students to think, dream big and set high goals for themselves!
